Religious life in 1914-1918

World War I

During World War I, faith increases with the threat, fear and timidity. People prayed and hoped that eventually bad time would go away and good and joyful days would come. They prayed daily, and God was present in their lives. In addition, with the increase of faith, increased the number of priests (about 59.000 only in France).

The Silesian Museum collections

Silesia was in this respect a very interesting place – here crossed the influences of two religions: Christianity and Judaism. Christianity was present in two denominations: Catholic and Protestant.


Present day

In today's world it is almost impossible to imagine the daily morning, evening and before meals prayers, as people go away from this tradition and faith in God. However, during the last century there were ordinary, continuous prayer, participation in religious services and requests for peace - especially at such murderous time, that was the First World War.
